'I've had no bin collection for 2 months ... it's piling up in the garage'

Robert Shaw of St Paul's Road in Kirkheaton, Huddersfield, had been relying on his granddaughter to drag his wheelie bins up his drive and onto the roadside because he and his wife are disabled. In February he found out about Kirklees Council's assisted collection service and was accepted onto the scheme after checks were made

He was told by Kirklees the new service would start on February 13 but, since then, the grey bin has been emptied just once, a month or so ago. He says recycling bins have also remained unemptied.

Robert, 67, a retired pub landlord, said the waste was piling outside his house and in the garage.

Some of it has been stored in his garage, while the household waste has gone into a skip he hired while gardening work was carried out.

He has complained by telephone on four occasions and has had several apologies - but has still been missed by the binmen.

"They said 'so sorry Mr Shaw - we will get it sorted out'. Nothing has happened in two months."

He said: "On four occasions I have contacted Kirklees Waste Collection and on every occasion, they were sorry and would report it to the duty manager.

"I have tried to contact her but have not had a reply. It's like they're not bothered. I know Kirklees has to find savings of £48m not to go bankrupt,
