Inquest into deaths on M606 opens

The head-on crash led to the deaths of the taxi driver, Sohail Ali, 28, from Bradford, and his passenger, Simon James McHugh, 49, from Huddersfield

Kyden Leadbeater, 18, a passenger in the Ford Transit, died at 7.15am the following day in Leeds General Infirmary, the inquest in Bradford was told yesterday. He was identified to hospital staff by his mum, Ester Devlin.

The inquest hearing was told that Mr Ali was confirmed to have died at 11.50pm on the M606 southbound carriageway. He was identified by his father, Ansur.

Senior coroner Martin Fleming outlined brief details of the circumstances of the collision, which happened on Monday, June 13.

He did not open the inquest into the death of Mr McHugh as the coroner's office had been unable to contact his family to make them aware it was taking place. His inquest is expected to be opened today or next week.

Mr Fleming said a van had been travelling the wrong way on the southbound carriageway when it collided with a Toyota Prius, causing fatal injuries to Mr Ali and Mr McHugh.

Mr Fleming said Kyden was one of three occupants of the van that had crashed with the Toyota Prius.
