And with no Huddersfield Carnival or Huddersfield Food & Drink Festival this summer, the show couldn't have arrived at a better time for a carnival-starved public

The 21st-year anniversary takes place at the Deighton Centre from noon until 7pm. And organisers say they can't wait to welcome folk with plenty of sunshine forecast.

This free family-oriented fun day promises to be the best one to date, with loads to for all the family - young and old.

And organisers say that after two years of online carnivals, they are glad to be finally back on the fields at the centre.

This year's theme is Deighton Celebrates showcasing its 21st anniversary which is a milestone within itself, celebrating coming out of lockdown, celebrating being able to have the carnival back on the fields again, celebrating the diversity of the area.

Many new and exciting activities are planned for this year's carnival, including the Roots and Culture Arena, comprising arts and crafts, and different cultural music to suit all tastes in a relaxed chilled atmosphere. There will be a young people's music arena, plus a music arena for the older heads, both venues will suit all tastes and cover all musical genres.

The carnival procession will again be vibrant and very colourful, with many new groups taking part.

The opening will take place at 1pm with the cutting of the ribbon to start the procession. Bob Cryan, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Huddersfield, is blessed with the honour of opening it.

The procession will make its way around the Ashbrow ward arriving back at the centre at approximately 2pm, where the field activities will already be in full swing.
