The
International
Institute
of
Adminis-
trative
Sciences,
at
its
Xth
Congress
at
Ma-
drid
in
1956,
discussed
the
question
of
fur-
ther
training
of
officials
in
the
course
of
their
career;
besides,
the
agenda
of
the
Northern
Administrative
Meeting
in
Iceland
in
May
1958
included
the
question
of
the
r
Signific-
ance
of
Administrative
Science
to
Practical
Administration
Jt,
which
led
to
a
discussion
also
of
the
further
training
of
officials.
The
latter
problem,
which
so
far
had
been
disregarded
in
Denmark,
was
recently
taken
up
for closer
examination
by
a
Departmental
Committee
set
up
by
the
Administrative
Board
(F orvaltningsnävnet)
in
pursuance
of
a
decree
made
by
the
Treasury
in
1957.
The
Committee
has
investigated
the
question
of
a
supplementary
training
of
officials
attached
to
the
Central
Administration
in
Denmark
and
a
final
Report
on
the
question
has
just
been
finished.
This
Report
first
of
all
lays
down
that
there
is
a
need
for
supplementary
training
of
junior
officials
after
a
short
time
of
service,
and
that
it
will
be
desirable
to
introduce,
at
a
later
stage
of
the
career,
further
supple-
mentary
training
for
those
who
are
to
be
promoted
to
top
positions.
A
brief
mention
of
the
discussion
and
of
the
resulting
propo-
sals
will
be
made
below.
The
Report
first
gives
an
account
of
the
existing
method
of
recruitment
and
of
the
actual
training
being
provided
at
present.
As
regards
recruitment,
the
existing
pro-
cedure
is
shown
not
to
be
adequate
or
suffi-
ciently
effective
and
it
is
proposed
that,
in
future,
recruitment
should
take
place
through
an
agency
which
shall
undertake
a
more
uni-
form
and
thorough
judgment
of
the candi-
dates,
and
to
which
the
Departments
of
State
may
apply
and
choose
between
the
available
candidates.
