JISCmail is a free electronic discussion list service specifically
for the higher and further education and research
communities. It uses electronic mail to enable groups of
academics and support staff to talk to each other and to share
information. There are over 2,900 lists covering subjects such
as air pollution, British poets, consumer studies, dental health,
ergonomics and food. The ADULT-PROTECTION JISCmail
list was established in June 2002 and was created to bring
together individuals with an interest in adult protection. The
list should be useful for academics, practitioners, managers
and service users.
JISCmail can be an aid to teaching, research and practice. It
is intended that the ADULT-PROTECTION list will help
individuals keep up to date with the latest developments,
work with other academics, researchers and practitioners on
papers and projects, and answer queries quickly. Perspectives
from a wide range of disciplines, including psychology,
sociology, law, philosophy and criminology are valued and
encouraged. It is envisaged that the list will provide a forum
for promoting discussion around a variety of important areas:
elder abuse, abuse of people with learning disabilities and
mental health difficulties, domestic violence and so on. To
date, topics raised and discussed by members on the list
include:
the role and influence of the Criminal Records Bureau on
recruitment
the use of the law in the protection of vulnerable adults
training resources for adult protection
the development of local policies and protocols for the
protection of vulnerable persons.
The success of the mail list is dependent on those
contributing. You do not need to be a computer expert.
JISCmail is easy to use; all you need is electronic mail. If you
would like to make a contribution, or you have any topics or
queries you would like to raise yourself, you can join the list
at: http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/ADULT-PROTECTION.html
After you join you will start to receive email from the list. If
you want to participate in discussions or ask a question, you
simply send a message to the list address. This message will
then be sent out automatically to all the list members, so
everyone will receive their own copy of your message. If you
join the list, you are advised to look at the ‘netiquette’
guidelines available at the JISCmail homepage:
