Knifeman robbed newsagent twice in three hours

During the second robbery on January 9 this year, Donovan Taylor produced a butter knife and threatened to 'smash' the female shop employee with it, but the cool-headed woman responded: "You have to stop. This is the second time today."

Within an hour of the woman opening up Paddock News that morning, Taylor brazenly walked in and started grabbing cans of cider from a fridge unit.

Yesterday, Bradford Crown Court was shown CCTV footage of the shop worker challenging the 36-year-old and trying to take the cans from his coat pockets.

During that incident Taylor did not produce a knife, but he told the woman: "Leave me alone. I'm desperate. I have to drink. I will smash you by knife."

Taylor, of Swan Lane, Lockwood, Huddersfield, left the store, but three hours later he walked back in and went to the same unit to grab more cans of cider. This time the CCTV footage captured Taylor with the cutlery knife in his right hand as the shop worker again confronted him.

Taylor told her: "Leave me alone. I will smash you with this knife."

A customer raised the alarm and he was arrested by police, who found him in possession of the cans of cider and the knife. Taylor told...
