Erratum
In my article “Law and Order Blues”, published in Australian and New Zealand
Journal of Criminology, 35(2)(pp. 127–144) I made the following statement
on p. 131:
Indermaur appears to have made an error in citing the prevalence estimate of assault
in the 1975 survey as 2.3%. The true figure is 1.1%.
In a footnote (Footnote 5) to the first of these two sentences I said:
The error appears to have arisen because Indermaur (1995) relied on Table 2 in
Braithwaite and Biles (1980) for information on national victimisation estimates in
the 1975 survey. This table appears to incorrectly report the ABS victimisation
estimates.
The prevalence estimate for assault in the 1975 survey was indeed 1.1%, as I had
stated. However, Braithwaite and Biles (1980) did not incorrectly report the ABS
victimisation estimates. Their Table 2 contains incidence not prevalence rates.
My apologies to readers for any confusion I inadvertently caused on this issue.
