The London Borough Council and Greater London Council Election Forms Regulations 1964

In pursuance of the powers conferred upon me by rules 4, 5 and 10 of the local elections rules in Schedule 2 to the Representation of the People Act 1949(a) (as they have effect in relation to elections to a London borough council and to the Greater London Council by virtue of paragraphs 13(1) and 14(1) and Parts II and III of Schedule 3 to the London Government Act 1963(b)) and by section 61 of the Local Government Act 1933(c) (as it has effect in relation to the said elections by virtue of section 1(6) of and paragraphs 10 and 11(1) of Schedule 2 to the London Government Act 1963), I hereby make the following Regulations:—

1. The County and Borough Election Forms Regulations 1951(d) (hereinafter referred to as "the principal Regulations") shall apply in relation to elections to the council of a London borough as they apply in relation to elections to the council of any other borough and in relation to elections to the Greater London Council as they apply in relation to elections to a county council, and accordingly—

(a) Regulation 4 of the principal Regulations and the London County Council and Metropolitan Borough Councils Election Forms Regulations 1951(e) are hereby revoked;

(b) any reference in the principal Regulations to a county, county council, county alderman, county councillor or electoral division shall be construed as including a reference respectively to Greater London, the Greater London Council, an alderman of the Greater London Council, a councillor of the Greater London Council or an electoral area;

(c) any reference in Schedule 2 to the principal Regulations to the mayor or the town clerk shall be construed as including a reference to the returning officer.

2.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the London Borough Council and Greater London Council Election Forms Regulations 1964 and shall come into operation on 28th February 1964.

(2) The Interpretation Act 1889(a) shall apply to the interpretation of these Regulations as it applies to the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.
