LOOKING
FORWARD
AS
ANNOUNCED
in
our
last issue,
THE
POLICE
JOURNAL
will be pub-
lished monthly with effect from January lst, 1963.
The
present issue
is thus the last
of
the bi-monthly series and we look forward to the
greater opportunities
of
being
of
service to
our
readers that more
frequent publication will give.
It
is not
our
intention to change the policy
of
THE
POLICE
JOURNAL
but
rather to implement
that
policy more fully, for it is neither more
nor
less
than
to provide the Police Service with a professional organ
of
ideas
and
experience.
A few changes will be made in
our
regular feature articles.
"Criminal Law and Practice in
Scotland"
disappears
but
we can
count on
our
Scottish contributors to keep us in touch with Scottish
policing. A new feature begins in January, which will be
of
special
interest to younger members
of
the Service: Superintendent J.
Daniel Devlin, LL.B., who is widely known as an authoritative
police writer, will contribute amonthly article on " The Promotion
Exams"
which will contain awealth
of
information
that
the text-
books do
not
provide. Mr. W.
H.
D. Winder, M.A., LL.M., will
continue the series
of"
Recent Judicial Decisions
".
At this point in
THE
JOURNAL'S
career, it is particularly appropriate
to remind
our
readers that the existence
of
THE
JOURNAL
has always
depended
upon
apartnership, for it is not only written
for
the Service
but
also in a great measure by the Service. Next year, with more
space at
our
disposal,
that
partnership will grow. We are always
glad to consider for publication articles on any aspect
of
the pro-
fession
and
it is
our
pride
that
THE
JOURNAL
has
room
for the work
of
all ranks. Indeed, at the present time, we have articles by chief
constables
and
by constables (and by most intermediate ranks)
awaiting publication in the New Year.
Law, criminal investigation, traffic, organization
and
administra-
tion, forensic science, police history, training, management
and
leadership are subjects on which we invite contributions
and
we
shall consider most carefully anything which may add to the fund
of
wisdom
and
experience
that
the Service is always accumulating.
