Man made threats to stab partner and her dog

Samuel Powell had been drinking at the woman's house in Shepshed on the morning of November 12

The argument started at about 10am when the woman was on the phone to a friend, who remained on the line and heard the victim screaming when Powell shoved and threatened her.

Leicester Crown Court heard the argument started in the bedroom and after Powell went downstairs the woman followed and asked him to leave, telling him their relationship was over.

Powell grabbed the woman's dressing gown by the collar and she shouted at him to get away from her.

He shoved her then went to the kitchen drawer and pulled out a knife and held it to the dog, Bear, and told her: "I'm going to do Bear and then I'm going to do you - you'd better call the police."

Prosecutor Pree Brada told the court: "She said she thought she was going to die."

Powell was arrested the following day at his home, which is in the same street as the woman's.

He pleaded guilty to making threats with a bladed article and assault by beating.

The court heard Powell had previously been convicted of three offences against the same woman, but not jailed.
