The former Ewood Park greats saw Rovers more than match high-flying Southampton and make another steady step towards survival

Saints failed to get any shots on target until late in the game and boss Russell Martin admitted that It definitely looks like the play-offs for his side.

He said: "I was disappointed with our creativity and flow. It just wasn't there.

"We were too slow with the ball and we lacked purpose in the first half.

"We had two brilliant chances, though, but lacked that final decision making."

Rovers manager John Eustace said: "I'm pleased with the clean sheet and it's another important point. The players gave everything. It was a sensational effort against a team that are up there.

"It's a long time since they failed to score."

Adam Armstrong missed a great chance early on to add to his 20 goals this season. A low cross from David Brooks on the right found him in front of goal but his over-hasty attempt to divert the ball in saw him put it wide.
