It was the brilliance of City keeper Max O'Leary, however, that blew both bosses away

Interim head coach Mike Dodds insisted O'Leary denied Sunderland a victory they deserved.

Dodds received the reaction he wanted from his Black Cats side after the "unacceptable'' 5-1 home battering by Blackburn on April Fools' Day.

He said: "We had 20 shots on goal. If their keeper isn't man of the match I'll be amazed.

"Some of his saves were excellent. It was a positive reaction to the previous game. It was a much better performance and I'm disappointed because I think we deserved to win.

"I think the keeper earned Bristol a point.'' But the woodwork helped too. Bradley Dack, who replaced Adil Aouchiche on the hour, came closest to scoring with a 73rd-minute header that crashed against the underside of the bar.
