Figures from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities show 10,715 households were waiting for a council house in Leicestershire as of March 31. This is down 13 per cent on the previous year (12,432) and down 38 per cent on 2011 (17,534)

There were also 3,860 households waiting for a property due to living in unsanitary or overcrowded conditions, up 17 per cent from 3,274, and 1,496 households were waiting for a property due to medical, welfare or disability needs, up 46 per cent from 1,018 in 2020.
