That might be why a company that's becoming known as much for its innovation in the smart home arena as for its flat-pack furniture is looking to the future by… making a record player.

Yes, Ikea has plans to release a turntable later this year. So we thought we'd go all retro this week and round up some other ways you can bring your record collection into the 21st century.

All we know is it'll be USB powered and will feature an internal pre-amp - Ikea says it's focusing on the important bits (the needle in other words), which will be from a well-known brand (which looks like it'll be Audio Technica from the logo in publicity shots). It'll hit the shops later this year when, incredibly, it'll become the first turntable Ikea has released since 1973.
