Murder accused couple admit cruelty

Agnieszka Kalinowska, of Leeds Road, is accused of murdering her son, Sebastian Kalinowski, at their home with her partner Andrezej Latoszewski

The couple were charged following Sebastian's death in August last year. Latoszewski pleaded guilty to a charge of manslaughter during the second day of the trial, which could last seven weeks, on Tuesday (June 14).

The couple stand accused of murder, neglect and causing or allowing the death of a child. Kalinowska stands accused of manslaughter, a charge she denies. The trial will continue with 11 jurors with both defendants still charged with the remaining offences.

Sebastian, who was originally from Poland, was found with serious injuries by the ambulance service at his home on Friday, August 13, last year.

Leeds Crown Court was told on Monday that Sebastian had been abused in a catalogue of violence by the defendants over a number of months. It is said some of the violence he endured was filmed after Kalinowska and Latoszewski put up CCTV cameras around the house.

Some of the footage was played in court to jurors earlier this week and showed Sebastian being hit with a bed slat and whipped with an extension cable as he performed exercises. An examination of Sebastian's body...
