Murder trial stepdad admits killing tragic boy

Andrezej Latoszewski, 36, pleaded guilty to a charge of manslaughter during the second day of a trial at Leeds Crown Court yesterday. The trial will continue, with both defendants still charged with the remaining offences.

The court heard yesterday how 15-year-old Sebastian died at his home in Leeds Road on August 13 last year after a catalogue of "torture" and "abuse".

A jury was shown footage from a CCTV system inside the house showing, the prosecution say, Latoszewski and Kalinowska assaulting him on a number of occasions.

The court heard that the abuse inflicted on the 15-year-old became "increasingly more severe and violent" over time.

One occasion, Jason Pitter QC prosecuting said, saw Latoszewski stamp on Sebastian's head, another saw him hit him with a bed slat and whip him with an extension cable while the teenager was forced to perform exercises.

The day before his death, the court was told footage showed Sebastian being assaulted by his mother and stepfather, who stabbed him with a needle.

Footage showed Sebastian on the day of his death taken out of his room by Latoszewski who returned him 15 minutes later.

The court heard Sebastian was "naked, clearly wet and unconscious" and that Latoszewksi made "limited efforts" to perform CPR.

Mr Pitter said the defendants "continued to make some effort" with Sebastian until the footage stopped at around 9.26am. The emergency services were called at 11am.
