"We have a rule: when we sit down at the dinner table, we are not allowed to talk about boxing because it takes over," said Barry McGuigan

It's an order from his wife Sandra, the mother of now twice British boxing trainer of the year Shane, Jake, Blain and the late Danika.

But boxing dominates the rest of their lives. Not surprisingly.

McGuigan, 63, is the former WBA featherweight title holder who brings his experience to son Shane's London gym, which trains WBO champion Chris Billam-Smith, IBF super-bantam title holder Ellie Scotney and rising women's superstar Caroline Dubois.

"I go in and watch the kids spar, I shout advice, sometimes I get told off by Shane and it is, 'Dad, shut up'," said Barry.

He's also there on fight nights. If you can't see him, you'll hear him.

This weekend sees a new documentary come out on Shane's gym and it includes a clip of Barry jumping for joy when Billam-Smith floors Lawrence Okolie in their WBO cruiserweight title clash last summer.

"I always apologise to people either side of me because I do get animated, but that's because I'm desperate for the kids to get their win," said McGuigan.
