This really is an incredible site, a 2000 year prehistoric tower-like structure, unique in southern Scotland, an exotic alien architecture normally found around our Atlantic coast

I was helping the Falkirk Ranger Service clear the bracken and self-seeded trees making sure you and anyone else can visit the site.

It wasn't hard.Thirty of us spent two hours and we'll do the same next year. Amazing. Many hands really do make light work.

But what is it doing here anyway?

That is one of the great mysteries.

Is it an Iron Age Elon Musk showing off his wealth? Is it a defiant shout of architectural rage in the face of the Roman invasion, harking back to a free north and free past?

We don't know. But for nearly 1000 years it was the largest building for 50 miles in any direction.

If you haven't been, why not? Now, when you go I'll let you into a secret as long as you don't tell anyone else. Promise?
