HERIEAS
the
borough
of
Newport
in
the county
of

Monmouth is
a
municipal
borough
and under the govern-
nient
of
the mayor aldermen and burgesses thereof (hereinafter
called “the Corporation
”)
and is

the borough with the powers

And whereas

the Newport, (Xonmouthshire) Corporation
Water Act

the Corporation were authorised to construct additional mater-
works and

Kewport Corporation Act 1897 the Newport
Corporation Act 1902 aiid the Newport Corporation Act

reference to their water undertaking were
conferred upon the Corporation

it
is expedient
to
empover the Corporation
to
corlstruct the waterworks and other
orks
referred
to
in
this
Act and to make further pro~ision

in this Act contained in
regard to their water undertaking
:
And whereas all
the
expenses of the Corporation whether
as
a
municipal
or
sanitary authority or otherwise are payable out
of
the
borough
fund and
borough
rate
or
out of the district
fnnd
and
general district rate of the
l~orough
and
it
is
desiralh
that
all
the said expenses

the borough
fund
and borough rate and that the provisions with
respect thereto
as
in
this Act contained should be enacted:
And wliereas the parish
of
Newport
is
eo-termiiious with
the borough
and
it is expedient that the contribution
of
the parish
to the borough rate should be levied
as
part and be paid out
of
the poor rate
for
the parish and that in relation thereto the
provisions contained in this Set for differential rating be enacted
:
And whereas
by
the Newport Corporation Act
1914
tlic
Corporation were authorised to construct
a
new bridge over the
River
Usk
in substitution for the existing bridge and
a
tempo-
rary bridge and street worlis in connexion with the new bridge
and
it
is
expedient that the periods respectively limited for those
works and
for
the compulsory acquisition of lands and easements
required therefor be extended
:
And whereas the objects aforesaid cannot be nttaiiied without
the authority

tion for the purposes hereinafter mentioned and such estimates
are as follows
