Note
from
the Editor
This fourth issue, marking the end
of
our
XXVIth volume, coincides with the departure
of Dr.
G.
Maselli, who can be considered as the spiritual father
of
International
Migration.
For
26
years the Deputy Director,
G.
Maselli, has monitored
International
Migration
and acted as its main mentor within the important organization ICM has
become.
As
already announced (IM,
25
(1987)2,
123),
hopefully next year, ICM will
become IOM, standing
for
International Organization for Migration.
This change in
name reflects the growing concern
of
ICM
for
research and scholarly activities. In this
perspective the task
of
International Migration can expand under the new leadership
of
James
N.
Purcell, the new Director General
of
ICM. This new perspective involves a new
challenge for editors and contributors.
