Note
from
the
Editor
For ten years
I
have been the editor
of
International Migration;
the time has come for
a change.
During these years, thanks to the dedication of three groups
of
persons, our review has
become a leading journal in its field, second to none.
The first group consists of the persons in charge at the International Organization for
Migration
(IOM)
headquarters; they were most instrumental in making sure that
International Migration
be actually printed and mailed to you, mostly on time.
The second group is composed of the authors, many of whose articles, first published
in our quarterly, now feature in handbooks
on
international migration.
The third group is formed by the readers, who range from policy-makers, high civil
servants, field workers, to scholars and students
on
migration. We were able
to
reach
them thanks to the unique position of
IOM
which has initiated ourjournal.
I
am confident
that the new editor, Professor Reginald T. Appleyard, will further develop
International
Migration.,
at
a
time when migration issues have become one of the major challenges
the world has to face at this end of century.
