Write stuff: Letter writing is a lost art

We spend a lot of time writing but it's usually via a keyboard. Putting pen to Basildon Bond has become a rarity.

So it should come as no surprise that, amid declining volumes, the owner of the Royal Mail could reduce deliveries of second-class letters to two or three days a week.

Inevitable but still a bit sad. In an era where we write so much, very little of it is permanent.
