Thompson, the most successful British coach of all time, winning five top-flight titles at Coventry, took over at Italian Serie B Unterland Cavaliers late last year. But he is having to adapt to Italy's pandemic rules.

He said: "We practise at night and have to had special forms signed by the President if we are going to be out after 10pm. You are not allowed to travel after that and my apartment is in the next village to the rink. I got stopped by the police because it was 10.30pm and I was the only car on the road.
