Popular Names Index to UK Cases and EU Legislation and Cases
It should be noted that this list:
• excludes UK legislation – there is a list of the popular names of legislation passed up to the late 19th century published in an appendix to Craies on Statute Law, up to the 7th edition, 1971;
• excludes the popular titles of most treaties and conventions (usually the place where the document was concluded, e.g. the Geneva Convention), since this type of search may be carried out successfully on the free FLARE Index to Treaties:
• excludes references to ship’s names since Current Law Case Citator (Sweet & Maxwell) carries a Ship’s Names Index in Part III, with law report citations;
• files titles and abbreviations in letter-by-letter order;
• is arranged so that the nth Company Law Directive, for example, is filed under Company Law, in Directive number order;
• refers to the Official Journal (OJ) in the order: year, series letter, issue number/page number.
The following book was consulted during preparation of the list:
• Fong, C and Rodwell, J, Popular Australian and English Case Names (Australian Law Librarians’ Group, New South Wales Branch, 1994).
For help in compiling the list special thanks are due to Masoud Gerami, Managing Director of Justis, who placed the Justis popular EU names index at our disposal. Other contributions, gratefully received, were made by (in alphabetical order) Viv Burfitt, Philip Duffy, Sue Fuller, Vivian Grange, Natasha Hammond-Browning, Dean Mason, Professor David Miers, Patrick Overy, Patricia Pritchard, Diane Warren.
