Popular shopkeeper a 'man of many wonders'

Muzaffar Hussain, who owned Birkby News in Birkby and lived locally, was a popular and kind man as well as a cherished husband, father and grandfather

The father-of-four had been living with heart failure for some time and died on March 11.

His son, Faraaz, said his dad had 'touched a lot of hearts in many different ways' and was always looking out for and helping others, including neighbours and shop customers, young and old.

"He was a man of many wonders. He did so many things in so many ways. He was a good character."

Faraaz said his dad was also known for his friendliness.

"Dad's smiled every morning and brought joy to everyone," he said. "He was always smiling."

In recent times, Mr Hussain - known to some as John - had been living with heart failure but 'never gave up' and did not complain, his family said.

Faraaz, with support from his siblings, has set up a Go Fund Me page in his dad's memory to raise money to help people in Pakistan where his dad was born.

More than £8,000 has been raised

He was definition community and his be already towards three projects: building a mosque in his name, building a water well, and donating to an orphanage.

Around 100 people have donated to the page.
