Preface
The
current
volume
was
originally
published
as
a
special
issue
of
Cooperation
and
Conflict,
Nordic
Journal
of
International
Politics
(3-4),
1972.
The
pagination
in
brackets
refers
to
the
pages
in
the
1972
volume
of
the
journal.
The
purpose
of
the
book
has
been
to
present
a
coherent
picture
of
the
composite
reasoning,
perspectives,
assess-
ments
and
expectations
which
condition
the
formulation
of
security
policies
in
each
of
the
five
Nordic
countries.
They
follow
different
paths
and
are
subject
to
different
incentives
and
constraints.
The
Nordic
countries
make
up
a
system
which
is
penetrated
by
extra-Nordic
link-
ages
and
commitments.
The
authors
analyse
the
patterns
of
interaction
from
the
perspective
of
each
of
the
Nordic
capitals.
I
want
to
thank
all
of
my

for
their
good
cooperation
in
an
endeavour
where
the
pace
of
events
provided
a
real
challenge
to

authors
