About Social Care Institute for Excellence
The aim of the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) is
to identify and spread knowledge about good practice in social
care to the large and diverse workforce and to support the sector
in the delivery of transformed, personalised social care services.
SCIE provides reliable, up-to-date and thoroughly-researched
guidance and practical tools on social care. All SCIE’s resources
are free. SCIE is an independent charity, funded mainly by
the Department of Health, but with additional funding from
the Welsh and Northern Ireland assemblies. SCIE develops
its products by carrying out and commissioning research, often
working with other leading organisations in the social care sector.
SCIE recognises the central role of people who use services and
their carers. It aims to ensure that their experience and expertise
is reflected in all aspects of our work. SCIE also values the views
of those working in social care. The audience for SCIE products
is extensive and includes practitioners, managers, social care
providers, the leadership sector, planners, funders, inspectors of
social care services, social care students and educators, researchers
and academics, people using services and their carers.
SCIE resources include:
■online practice guides for social care managers and workers
■practical tools to improve the way organisations manage and
support their staff
■e-learning tools on key subjects for students, teachers, lecturers
and trainers
■discussion papers and position papers outlining the views of
SCIE or other partners
■detailed reviews of existing knowledge
■Social Care Online, a comprehensive online database of social
care.
