1970. Kenneth Mason. £10
The word consolidated has become
synonymous with
Road
Traffic legis-
lation so it is no surprise to find
that
authoritative case law on road traffic
has at last been brought together in one
volume. This book is the first bound
collection of
Road
Traffic Reports, a
series of full length law reports of all
reportable road traffic decisions in the
Higher Courts.
Road
traffic offences take up a large
part
of the time in Britain's courts and
threaten to demand an even greater
share of judicial time in the future.
There has long been a need for a good
system
of
reporting road traffic cases
and one can anticipate
that
Road
Traffic Reports will quickly become the
standard reference work for case law
on the subject.
Road Traffic Reports are published
at four to five week intervals with a
cumulative index and the annual issue
is produced at the end of the year in a
single bound volume. The book is well
265
laid
out
and both printing and script
are excellent. Each page is sectioned
into eleven parts by marginal lettering
for easy reference from any of the five
parts of the index. This is made up of
Cases Reported, Subject Matter, Cases
Judicially Considered, Statutes Judi-
cially Considered and Statutory In-
struments Judicially
Considered-
truly comprehensive. There are no
footnotes to the text so
that
reading is
straightforward and uninterrupted.
At first glance the cost of the book
may appear high, but this will be amply
compensated by the saving in research
time during future years.
It
is a great
pity that such a venture was not
tackled a long time ago. After only
three days in the office, however, my
copy was looking very second-hand.
For
aworking book this
just
is not
good enough and it is to be hoped
that
future issues will show some improve-
ment.
