Schoolgirl footballers head to national final

Pupils from St. Joseph's in Hebburn beat South Wolds Academy from South Nottingham in the Semifinal by a score of 3-0. The girls will play Surbiton High school from Kingston, London, in the final on Tuesday , May 21

Over 230 teams entered the competition, and the team are delighted with their performance.

Millie Smith, who plays in the leftwing position, said: "We are proud that we got all the way here, it's a big achievement, and we are nervous for the final."

Suzanne Lewis-Dale, Acting Headteacher, said: "We are delighted with the team's achievement.

"Our school is fortunate enough to have its own football academy in partnership with a local provider

Improtech. This success demonstrates the immense talent we have within school.

"We wish them every success in the final."

Over in Peterlee, the team of Year 10 and 11 girls at St Bede's, which is part of the Bishop Chadwick Education

Trust, beat Haslingden High school from Rossendale, Blackburn 3-1 in the semi-final.

They will play Fulbrook School from Woking in the final on Tuesday, May 7 at Stoke City FC's Bet365 Stadium. Victoria Chester...
