I have just joined the editorial board of The
Journal of Adult Protection.
I think most of you will be aware that this
is an important publication that allows us to
build up and access a body of knowledge about
safeguarding adults/adult protection work.
Many of the people who know most about
safeguarding adults work in practice and could
therefore contribute greatly to the knowledge
base – particularly about good practice – are
those of you reading this.
At our last editorial meeting, we talked
about why more of you don’t write for the
Journal. My suspicion is that it has something
to do with you being very busy people and also
that the thought of trying to write a paper for
a journal when you haven’t written anything
except a set of adult protection procedures and
an annual report since leaving university seems
a bit daunting.
Therefore, we want to introduce a new
section into the Journal of ‘shorts’. This will be
a collation of short pieces of writing (250–500
words) that may be opinion pieces, or a short
description of a project or a case that you
have been involved with that raises issues of
significance for other practitioners.
If you think that you’d like to contribute in
this way – or indeed you have something longer
but you’re not sure if it would be right for the
Journal – please contact one of the editors to
discuss (details below). It will be good to hear
from you.

disabilities, mental health and physical disabilities, as well as different types of abuse:
financial, psychological, physical and sexual abuse, and neglect.
