Shop could lose alcohol licence

Coast View Shop, on East Parade, is up before North Tyneside Council's licensing committee at the request of Northumbria Police next week

The force has submitted documents to the council detailing an investigation into claims of underage alcohol sales.

Northumbria Police were alerted in early January to an incident on New Year's Eve, where it was claimed underage sales of alcohol took place on the premises. Police subsequently obtained CCTV footage from the shop from the day in question.

The footage showed several young girls purchasing both Dragon Soup, a 7.5% caffeinated alcopop, and small bottles of vodka. None were asked for their ID.

The identity of one of the girls in the footage was confirmed to police by their mother, who also stated her daughter and the other girls were only 14 years old at the time of the sale.
