But the 17-year-old is able to take the positives from a good team performance and a great solo effort in his second game for the Doonhamers.

He said: "The boys worked brilliantly for the full 90 minutes. Before and after I came on I thought they were exceptional. We suffered a lapse in concentration for the last five to ten minutes. The boy ran off us and slotted it in. It's the same as last week at the Patrick match.

"It was a lapse in concentration there. It's tough, the boys are disappointed in the changing room but we've got to pick ourselves up.

"I thought we were brilliant in both games we've played against two of the teams who people expect to be pushing for promotion. I thought we deserved something from both games. It's a tough league and we can't keep saying we should've got something from games when we don't.

"We're going to have to start getting results somewhere. And hopefully we can start that against Morton."

Cowie was brought on to the pitch after Josh Rae was clattered by Bandon Haunstrapp and had a badly injured face after the collision.

Rae was sent for an x-ray after the game and there remains to be an update from the club on his condition.

Cowie stepped into the fray and gave away a backpass shortly after coming on. But he settled and made a terrific save from Blair Alston.

Charlie said: "It was a bit frantic to start. "I wanted to get settled in as quickly as possible. I know with the mistake of the pass back, you've got to try and forget about that very quickly and move on.

"The save settled me down a lot. It actually relaxed me. It's the first game I've played with fans at the ground. I came on at first and could hear them in my ear and thought what's this but I got used to it very quickly and zoned them out and focused on what was going on the park.

"I've spoken to Josh and I wish him the best as it did look a sore one. Hopefully he's not out for too long."

Rae's injury may provide Cowie with a platform to play again as the first choice recovers.

Carlie added: "Everyone wants to play. We've got a group of 20 boys who wants to play every week. It's competitive for places in training and hopefully I can kick on."
