Sunday For Sammy charity concert is put back a year

However the next event, which had been scheduled for early 2022, has been moved back 12 months.

Organisers say there are simply too many unknowns in the near future while if the show had to be postponed again, that delay could cause "major" financial problems for the charity it benefits, The Sunday for Sammy Trust.

Auf Wiedersehen Pet actor Tim Healy, the Trust's chairman, has said that because of this it was felt there was "no alternative" but to delay the event until the pandemic is firmly in the past.

"Although the UK COVID lockdown restrictions have been relaxed, the overall picture is far from clear with new strains in the UK and infections on mainland Europe continuing to rise," said the actor in a statement on behalf of the trustees.

"Sunday for Sammy takes many months of preparation and planning and is not viable in a socially-distanced format either creatively or financially.

"Our fingers are crossed that all restrictions are lifted so we can present the shows in their traditional format. Obviously if circumstances change for the worse we may need to postpone again as the financial implications of re-scheduling would cause the charity major problems.

"Consequently the Trust cannot commit to the next Sunday for Sammy until 100% certain we can go ahead.

"The dates are booked for 2023 and are hopeful we can bring...
