TECHNICAL
REPORT
Under the heading "Pictures by telephone", we dealt with the
Robot PLTV system.
Messrs Aero and General Supplies of Bramcote, Nottinghamhave
asked to point out that the real reason for the higher definition
produced by their model "630" is that the picture has four times as
many pixels (dots), namely 256 x 256 in place of 128 x 128.
It
is nevertheless, true to say that there are 64 shades of grey
available instead of 16,which is, of course, a real advantage.
KENT POLICE -CONCEALED

SHIRT
SLEEVE
ORDER
At a recent operation where members of the Kent Police Support
Group were engaged on armed protection duty, it was necessary to
carry firearms. The nature of the operation was such that firearms
had to be carried covertly within the precincts of the court building
and the only way of concealing the weapons was for the officers to
wear raincoats. This proved both uncomfortable, due to heat, and a
little awkward due to questions from members of the public as to why
they were overdressed inside the building and could not remove their
raincoats.
Members of the unit devised modification to the uniform trousers
normally worn in the Force and came up with a design modification
which enables a handgun to be carried inconspicuously.
As shown in the attached photographs, the modification is in the
form of a strong holster-shaped pocket which can be positioned on
the right or left of the garment.
It
is covered by a flap which isheld in
place by 'Velcro' strip.
This flap allows easy access to the weapon and continuous
operational use has shown
that
it does not attractattention, while at
the same time enabling the officer to get to
His
revolver quickly if
necessary.
It is emphasised that this modification is not designed for 'quick
draw' situations, but is felt to be an improvement on the previous
circumstances with which the men were faced.
Modifications were carried out at minimal cost by Kent's own
tailors.
