THE
"COFFILTA"
SENIOR
€OFFEE
MAKING
MACHINE
One of the pleasures of visiting-any American police station is the
instantaneous hospitality, and that never includes a cup of Instant
coffee.
It
is a cup of fresh tasty coffee, which seems to be always
available.
Now, thanks to a Hampshire firm, there are hopes that we might
even see similar standards in more enlightened British stations.
There is a Junior model (at £79.50) but we tested the Senior (at
£94.50). Each comes with its own heat resistant jug, filters, filter
funnel and built-in hot plate.
You can use any of the many varieties of real coffee on the market
and in under ten minutes you can have 50 cups of beautiful coffee
available. Of these, you can use I or 49 and. have the rest kept
instantly available by the use of the built-in hot plate.
The whole machine is well built and well designed
and
having
exposed it to continuous use over a number of hours by a number of
not exactly gentle police officers, as well as the gentler hands of the
administrative staff, we could find no signs of deterioration.
And, ifyou buy one, you can always invitethis reviewerto stop for
a cup of real coffee and let the others have the instant, and if you have
any overseas visitors, their view of the British will at least double.

SYSTEM 80
SHIPTON
COMMUNICATIONS LTD.
This is the latest development in Shipton Communications Ltd.,
range of telephone answering machines. As can be seen from the
illustration the new machine has a modern presentation and uses
touch buttons for control of the various functions.
As well as the ability to play back messages left on the machine
from a remote telephone, which facility is available on contemporary
makes of machine, the System 80 has the ability remotely to control
other functions.
System 80 achieves this by responding to a sequence of numbers.
Thus, by speaking the chosen codes (they can be varied by the user)
into the remote telephone, the system can be commanded to erase the
recorded message,
turn
on lights, or carry out some complex
operation such as enabling aterminal to have access to a computer.
In operation, your reviewer found the equipment to be reliable so
long as the coded numbers werespokendeliberately. Failing this, the
System 80 took no action thus avoiding false operation. A
confidence tone assures the operator that all is well.
