Third mobile PCR testing site opens in North Tyneside

Over the weekend, around 993 people were checked at two mobile PCR test sites in North Shields and Wallsend town centres.

On Monday, a third test site opened to the public in Shiremoor, next to the Aldi store and Costa cafe. All three sites will run from 10am to 4pm every day.

The service was put in place after a rise in COVID cases in North Tyneside.

Health officials say cases have increased from 22 to 55 per 100,000 over the last week and more cases of the variant, first identified in India, have been found in parts of the borough.
