Timing may have been key to A Plus Tard's Savills defeat

It happens to everyone in all walks of life, whether it be a striker who hasn't scored in age or a salesman struggling to finish a deal. The same has to be the case with jockeys and it must be especially hard if all you do is ride high-profile horses

When you're riding longshots at Cartmel or Clonmel no-one notices, just as if you haven't scored in ages playing for Accrington Stanley rather than Arsenal, but when all you're doing is getting on high-class horses you're putting your head over the parapet almost every time you ride a horse. Then coping mentally when things aren't going perfectly is that much harder to deal with.

Yes, the striker for Accrington Stanley will have his own level of pressure but the wider world doesn't really care, which is very different if you happen to be, for example, Marcus Rashford.

Why I mention this is because I rewatched the Savills Chase again a few times over the weekend and I couldn't help but feel that if Rachael Blackmore was riding the crest of a wave like she was last season, A Plus Tard would have won.

The first thing to say is that she didn't do that much wrong but it seemed to me that she made her ground up off a slow pace prematurely, perhaps a furlong too soon, and left A Plus Tard's chin out to be smacked by...
