Town centre sites up for sale after demolition work is finished

Demolition work has been completed at two areas beside the ring road that used to be home to Huddersfield Technical College

Some 20th-century extensions beside the Grade II*-listed former Huddersfield Infirmary building remain intact, although conservationists are worried about its condition and how weather-proof it is.

The demolition site, off Trinity Street, is made up of three plots, one of which is due to be a new Lidl store. It has now emerged that the site owner has put two plots up for sale. The price has not been made public.

A spokesman for Leeds-based project managers Fox Lloyd Jones has confirmed that the two plots have been listed for sale.

¦Plot 1 includes the listed former infirmary which has planning permission for 32 apartments and around 10,000sq ft of office space. ¦ Plot 2 is cleared land that has outline permission for 197 apartments.

A spokesman for Fox Lloyd Jones said: "Following completion of a substantial demolition and enabling works contract with Stainforth, we are presenting to the mar- ket a now fully cleared development site (Plot 2) alongside an existing building for conversion (Plot 1), suitable for residential redevelopment or alternative uses, subject to planning permission."

Last month consent was obtained to include a new access road from New North Road "We are inviting interest for the sale of the freehold interest in Plots 1 and 2 on an unconditional or conditional basis, either individually or combined," the spokesman added.
