There are plenty of ways to answer that question, one of which is in raw numerical terms

The Terriers had just 20 players who started at least five games in all competitions last season, with a further four who started three each: Ryan Schofield, plus the departing Jamal Blackman, Carel Eiting and Alex Vallejo.

Another five players - Tino Anjorin, Mipo Odubeko, Nicholas Bilokapic, Aaron Rowe and Rolando Aarons - made at least one appearance from the bench without starting .

That suggests head coach Carlos Corberan needs a core group of 20 players, plus a couple extra to account for injury, illness, suspension and the increase in the number of permitted substitutions from three to five for the coming campaign.

As such, the 'two first-teamers for each position' policy of last summer seems to work just fine.

Sixteen of last season's core 20 remain at the club as it stands, with Danel Sinani, Levi Colwill, Naby Sarr and Fraizer Campbell the only members of that group to depart, although Pipa looks set to follow them with Greek champions Olympiakos closing in on signing the defender .
