Tragic boy suffered 'torture' campaign

Ms Kalinowska and Mr Latoszewski deny the charges of murder, manslaughter, neglect, allowing or causing the death of a child and neglect.
A seven-week trial opened yesterday at Leeds Crown Court with the prosecution outlining the alleged abuse inflicted on Sebastian.
Sebastian, who was originally from Poland, but had moved to live with his mum in Huddersfield in October 2020, was found with serious injuries by paramedics at his home on Friday, August 13.

Prosecuting, Jason Pitter QC, said: "His skin was cold and blue. When his clothes were cut open, a large bruise was noted to the left side of his body. Whilst at the hospital, Latoszweski made comment that the worst punishment Sebastian had was a smacked a***. That gross understatement was accompanied with what seemed to be an inappropriate, and telling, laugh."
An examination of Sebastian's body revealed a number of injuries, including bruised buttocks which also had multiple healing linear scabs forming, bruising to his forehead, jaw, abdomen and his arms and legs, and multiple rib fractures of varying ages.
The court heard that the abuse inflicted on the 15-year-old became "increasingly more severe and violent" over time. Mr Pitter said Sebastian was initially excluded from family gatherings, including trips and when Sebastian was asked after, in line of their [the defendants'] treatment of him, they were told that he was being 'punished for the whole holidays.'
A neighbour said she would see Latoszewski shouting at Kalinowska and her son, who she described as "lovely" and who was treated "like a gopher or lapdog."
It is alleged Sebastian was made to refer to Latoszewski, a bodybuilder, and user of anabolic steroids, as 'Mr' or 'Sir' and was monitored by a remote CCTV system that had been set up inside the house. The jury was told that the couple forced Sebastian to take part in "physical and humiliating drills" such as squats or pushups.
