Tributes paid after death of 'beautiful soul' Lisa

Described as "brilliant" by her bosses, the award-winning BBC Radio Newcastle presenter died following a short illness, leaving behind a young family.

Now figures from across the media industry, as well as listeners of her popular mid-morning show, have shared their memories of Among them Gary Taphouse, the Sky Sports football commentator and her former university housemate, who recalled how the pair "laughed endlessly" for three years living together.

"A wonderful and talented human being," he tweeted. "Life is so cruel."

Geordie comedian Gavin Webster added: "What a great broadcaster and interviewer and a truly lovely person. Thoughts with her family and close friends right now."

Addressing the "terribly sad news", Viz co-founder Simon Donald tweeted: "I worked with her many times, a friendly, open and professional presenter.

And Mark Allison, the North East fundraiser known as Run Geordie Run, shared a picture of himself with Lisa. In an emotional tweet, he wrote: "Lisa Shaw meant so many happy and wonderful things to so many people in the region and beyond. She will never be forgotten.

"One of life's beautiful souls. My thoughts are with her colleagues, friends, listeners and especially her family at this devastating time."

The County Durham-born presenter died in hospital following a short illness, her BBC colleagues reported on Sunday.

The organisation shared a statement from her family which stated she was an "amazing person" who had "touched and enriched so many people's lives, and made them better just by being in it".
