Northbrook, Il -- The UL has issued a notification that a particular communications cable branded as "Claritronix" has been identified as potentially posing a fire hazard. The packaging for the communications cable in question carries the UL Mark for both the United States and Canada without having the authority to do so, according to the Underwriters Laboratories warning statement.

The UL states that the product name is identified as Claritronix Cabling Solutions and it is a CMR Cable type. The hazard described states that this communications cable does not meet the flammability requirements of the safety standard which may cause an increased risk of fire.

As a result the UL recommends that the remedy is that this cable should not be used and if already installed it should be removed from service.

Identification on the Cable: The surface of the cable jacket displays the following description: CLARITRONIXtm VERIFIED (ETL) UTP CAT. 5E 350 MHZ TO TIA/EIA 568-B.2 E309496 (UL) OR C(UL) CMR ROHS 24AWG 4P ZONE/DEVICE A B C D E 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 JACK 1 2 3 4 5 6 0982FT.
