The Toon head coach guided Newcastle to 12th place on the final day of the season but expects to be busy in the next few weeks.

Watched by Toon owner Mike Ashley and his close aide Keith Bishop, Newcastle were good value for their win but face a big task to repeat the same performance overall next term.

Bruce said afterwards: "Of course, we can take the club forward but it is small steps.

"My aim from day one has been to try and keep Newcastle out of the bottom half of the division, I have said that.

"We still have a lot to do in my opinion but that is my job and I am trying my very best to achieve it."

Bruce was asked again by journalists about Joe Willock in his post-game press conference at Craven Cottage.
