There are no NRL players in contention due to the logistics of them travelling halfway around the world. That has left the door ajar for more domestic players to force their way into Wane's thinking but even then, there are some notable omissions... ¦ ¦OLIVER WILSON WITH this weekend all about the chance for players to impress ahead of the World Cup, there is one young forward in particular who some felt could have been given that window of opportunity.

Huddersfield Giants' Oliver Wilson has been one of the standouts for the Claret and Gold in what has already been an impressive season for the club.

He has been instrumental in their good form in both Super League and the Challenge Cup, and has been a mainstay of their pack alongside Chris Hill.

Wilson's time at international level will almost certainly come, and even if the World Cup is a step too early, England Knights duty seems inevitable. But some feel he could have had his chance to show Wane what he could do this weekend.

¦ TOM DAVIES ENGLAND'S greatest strength in depth these days arguably comes on the wing. That is emphasised by the international retirement of Giants' Jermaine McGillvary still leaving at least five or six credible candidates.

It looks likely the two wing spots tomorrow will be filled by Tommy Makinson and Ryan Hall. But Catalans winger Tom Davies is perhaps a shade unfortunate not to be in the 20-man squad.

His form was recognised last year when he was involved in the England team that took on France, but there has been no recall this summer for...
