She sang "You're So Vain" sending up the self-obsessed in 1972 - and now in the internet age we are the nation most likely to edit our selfies to make us look better.

We are obsessed with bagging the perfect shot for the likes of Instagram and dating apps such as Tinder.

Brits search the web more than 108,000 times a month asking Google: "How to edit selfies." Frequent queries include: "How can I boost my cleavage?" "How can I make my eyes sparkle?" and "How can I look slimmer?"

The second vainest nation on the continent is Spain with 75,000 monthly searches followed by Germany with 63,700 and France on 60,400.

The least vain are Belarusians with 3,100.

A spokesman for online marketplace OnBuy.com, which carried out the survey, said: "Social media has become the place for everyone to show off the best version of themselves.
