Anderson had been sidelined since October with a back injury, but he has gradually made his return to the team. The 21-year-old returned to the scene at Ewood Park to slam home a penalty in the shoot out, but he will be keen to score his first competitive goal for the Magpies.

He certainly demonstrated he was capable of being star of the show in the Premier League Summer Series. But the starts he deserved were ripped away from him after suffering a back injury that denied him so much football.
