12 iconic Edinburgh buildings that are at risk of vanishing forever

After years of false dawns, the council-owned Tron Kirk on the Royal Mile is all set to reopen on July 1 as a retail outlet by social enterprise Scottish Design Exchange (SDX)

But while the restoration of such an iconic and important city landmark was never really in doubt, there are plenty of buildings around Edinburgh that might not be so fortunate.

According to the Buildings at Risk Register for Scotland, there are 92 properties in the Edinburgh area that are currently facing an uncertain future and under threat of demolition.
