6,000 jobs coming to the North East over the next three years from inward investment; New figures show that inward investment from firms outside the region is bringing jobs to the North East.

More than 6,000 new jobs are set to be created across the next three years by businesses investing in the North East.

New figures show there were 84 inwards investments in the region last year by firms opening a new base in the North East or expanding their existing offices.

The statistics were unveiled by Invest North East England on behalf of the region's seven local authorities and theNorth East Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

The investments will lead to the creation of more than 6,000 new jobs over the next three years. This is up by more than 2,000 jobs compared to last year's figure.

One of the firms responsible for creating the roles is Hull-headquartered call centre business ResQ. The business has opened a new office at Spectrum Business Park,Seaham, and will lead to 1,200 new jobs.

Nic Marshall, ResQ's CEO, said: "We were delighted to be able to expand our business into North East England.

"Spectrum Business Park andCounty Durhamas a whole offered us the quality of premises we needed for this key expansion of our business, with access to a high quality workforce which was critical in our decision-making process.

"The outstanding support we have had to help us make the move and expand our business here, entirely justifies our decision to come to North East England."

Other successes in the region include Belgian-owned Smulders, which is creating 300 new jobs in Tyneside to assemble the foundations for an offshore wind farm.

US-owned customer services giant Convergys is also planning to create 600 job at its centre for excellence at The Rocket, in Newcastle's Stephenson Quarter.
