Aiden McGeady Hibs transfer latest with club 'hopeful of deal' ahead of Portugal pre-season trip

The Daily Record claim the Easter Road side are pushing hard to get a deal over the line for the former Celtic and Sunderland man in the coming days to make the 36-year-old Lee Johnson's latest signing in his major summer recruitment drive in the capital

Republic of Ireland international McGeady will have a medical and barring any glitches will team up with his former Black Cats boss once again after departing the Stadium of Light this summer following the expiry of his contract.

Last week Johnson admitted his interest in the winger and described the man he has a strong relationship with as a 'maverick'.

He said: "I have got a strong relationship with Aiden.

"He is 36 so whether it's us or anyone else he has nothing to prove, but a lot to prove as well. He is a maverick, he is a challenging but inspiring character to have in your squad."

McGeady could form part of a new-look frontline at Easter Road with fellow winger Jair Tavares arriving on a long-term contract from Benfica B. Momodou Bojang, who plays up top, has joined on a loan deal from Rainbow FC.

David Marshall, Nohan Kenneh, Rocky Bushiri, Lewis Miller and Kyle McClelland has also put pen to paper this summer with more arrivals and departures expected at the club.
