Several studies show using lavender oil for aromatherapy can improve sleep quality, especially in people who suffer with insomnia, depression, and anxiety. Other research shows lavender oil may also increase time spent in deep, slow-wave sleep.

One study from 2015 showed lavender "improved sleep quality for college students with self-reported sleep issues". Lavender oil aromatherapy has also been shown to decrease physical and emotional signs of stress, lower blood pressure and heart rate, and boost relaxation. A separate study focussing on oral lavender medication suggested it can improve sleep quality and ease anxiety about as effectively as a low dose of the sedative lorazepam.
